HAKASE 90th Anniversary Model Mikurajima Gold Mulberry Wood Grain Chinkin Wipe Urushi Limited to 35 Pieces

I want to make something that will be called a national treasure someday. Something that has never been seen before, making the most of precious natural materials, and yet being more beautiful and yet being able to be used as a tool for everyday use. We expressed this desire at the turning point of our 90th anniversary.

We obtained rare Mikurajima Gold Mulberry. This is an unprecedented model that makes the texture and grain of the material itself more beautiful and prominent through wood grain chinkin. In addition, the edge of the cap is generously decorated with chinkin, creating an accent like a cap ring.

About Mikurajima Gold Mulberry

Mikurajima Gold Mulberry is the best mulberry wood. The mulberry of Mikurajima, located in the central Izu Islands that belong to Tokyo. This region is blessed with a warm climate throughout the year, and historically has a lot of rich nature. This is what made this mulberry famous. Since Mikurajima is a place where humans cannot reach, the tree rings pile up and the mountain slope is steep, so it grows in a place where humans cannot reach, and the tree’s rings become dense and deep golden color. Because of this property, it is called gold mulberry, and it is an extremely rare material that is almost impossible to obtain these days.

About Wood Grain Chinkin

I was thinking about how to express the beautiful grain of this rare material more beautifully, and I came across the woodworker’s technique of Wood Grain Chinkin. Wood Grain Chinkin  is a technique that uses the traditional Maki-e technique of “Chinkin” to leave pure gold leaf and pure gold powder in the wood grain, making the texture of the material itself more beautiful and prominent. Wood Grain Chinkin is usually used for keyaki and chestnut, but I was fortunate to have access to the texture of the gold mulberry wood grain, and I was convinced that it would definitely be beautifully finished. Until then, I had a hard time selecting the gold leaf and gold powder to use, but after two years of repeated trial and error, I was successful.

*We strongly recommend that you use the setting without posting the cap on the barrel. (To prevent scratches on the wood grain chinkin lacquer part from years of use.)

You can also choose the color of the ebonite for the neck and screw part in black or red and black.

Bonus

As a token of our appreciation to customers who order the 90th anniversary model, we will give you one real sepia ink dark, Tottori Prefecture-produced Cuttlefish version (limited to 35 bottles). It’s extremely valuable, regardless of cost, as it takes a lot of time and effort to collect and process the ink sacs of local squid.

The regular products are made from Common Cuttlefish from the Mediterranean, but this is a stock that was hastily prepared when there was no fishing in the Mediterranean for several years.
